What Is an Accredited Investor?

Answer

An accredited investor meets SEC income or net-worth thresholds (broadly, $200k income individually / $300k jointly for two years, or $1M net worth excluding a primary home) and so may invest in many private offerings, including most real estate syndications.

The accreditation standard is set by the SEC and lets sponsors raise capital privately under Regulation D. Certain professional certifications can also qualify an individual. Always verify current requirements with the SEC and your advisors before investing.
